(12:15-12:45pm) RACHEL HARRINGTON
A new full-time Vashon Island resident, Rachel Harrington has released four critically acclaimed albums to date. Best described as gothic Americana, her songs have won accolades at various esteemed contests including Sisters Folk Festival and Merlefest. FOUR STARS: "Ancient-sounding country noir … Harrington is all about what’s left off her songs, and the skeletal arrangements leave the listener to fill in the unspoken terrors and tenderness that lie beneath.” ~Q magazine
(1:00-1:30pm) SUNDAE & MR. GOESSL
While some call their style "Vintage Pop" and others deem it "Cowboy Jazz", there's one adjective everyone can agree on: delightful. Sundae + Mr. Goessl are a husband/wife duo playing a mix of genres from an era long gone. Reviving great composers like Duke Ellington, the Gershwin brothers and Cole Porter, this duo takes it upon themselves to arrange every nuance and create their own fresh take on these classic tunes. Kate Voss stands in as front woman with a sweet, inviting sound and the "merest hint of Billie Holiday" (allaboutjazz.com). Jason Goessl keeps the party going with his impossibly layered guitar parts, playing bass, melodic lines and chords at the same time!
(1:45-2:15pm) THE GIN JOINTS
Birch Pereira and the Gin Joints is a unique project that revisits the music from the Tin Pan Alley jazz era to classic country and rock n' roll. With upright bassist Birch Pereira and his relaxed, Chet Baker-inspired vocal style at the center, the group features a revolving cast of sought after Seattle musicians that draw from the repertoires of Fats Waller, Hank Williams, Louis Armstrong, Patsy Cline, Mills Brothers, Ricky Nelson and Johnny Horton.
(2:30-3:00pm) SHASTA BREE
Shasta Bree is a singer-songwriter, influenced by such artists as Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Harry Nilsson, Gillian Welch, BB King, Etta James, and so many more. Shasta's music rests in the elegant shade of Americana.
