(1:45-2:05pm) MAIJAH SANSON-FREY
Maijah Sanson-Frey is a 16 year old singer-songwriter wish a passion for love, music, and stars. She also loves writing, and this summer was named Vashon's youth poet laureate 2015-2017. She has been in many musical theater productions, and most recently she was April in VYT's production of Company. You may have seen her perform at many of Vashon's events, including the I Am Vashon Guitar Project. Maijah has many musical inspirations (including Amy Winehouse, Adele, Lana del Rey, Alt-J, Hozier, and of course, the Beatles), and her dream is to become a recognized singer-songwriter.
(2:10-2:30pm) DUO FINELLI
Duo Finelli is a pair of funny ladies, presenting a clown show with circus antics, live music, and classic style comedy. They are based on Vashon Island and love to travel the world performing clown shows, including festivals in the United States and Mexico. They've also performed with the humanitarian organization Clowns without Borders in Nicaragua, Greece, and Lebanon.
(3:15-3:35pm) MALLORY BREEN
Mallory Breen is a 17-year-old alternative indie inspired singer songwriter. She took up the guitar when she was 8 years old, and immediately fell in love with it. More recently, she has begun singing and writing her own original music.
(3:40-4:00pm) RISE & RISK
RISK (Rock Island String Kollective), based on Vashon Island, is one of few multi-generational,
String ensembles playing traditional, folk and rock music. RISK welcomes a range of string instruments including Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Ukulele, Mandolin, Banjo and Harp. Now in its 6th year, RISK also provides public performances at Island schools and senior centers. RISK is open to anyone willing to take RISKs with their music and have fun in the process! RISE (Rock Island String Education) is a program for 3rd through 5th graders wanting to learn fiddle or guitar. Now in its 3rd year, RISE provides low-cost music lessons in a group setting for younger children. Both groups have performed at Folklife Fest for the past two years.
(4:45-5:00pm) JONAH COLE
Jonah Cole got his first guitar for his second birthday. He started lessons when he was 7. His principal musical influences are Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Mike Doughty, Flock of Seagulls, and his teacher Daryl Redeker. He likes to swing the blues alone on acoustic, and rock out with his family on electric. He has performed for classes at Chautauqua Elementary, and is excited for his debut performance at the Strawberry Festival.
(5:05-5:30pm) 20 EYES
20 Eyes are a rock band making music unlike anyone else on Vashon right now. From old school punk classics to new covers and original songs, these three teenagers, (Angelica Odom on guitar and vocals, Forest Bowden on bass and vocals, and Jacob Bowden on drums and backup vocals) set the bar for rockin' the house. With influences ranging from the Misfits and Ramones, to The White Stripes and Johnny Cash, these young musicians love performing and playing live music together with a ferocity and passion rarely seen these days.
(6:15-6:35pm) A STREET BLUES
A Street Blues is a charismatic, Youth Blues band from Washington State with a flair for combining hard rocking blues and contemporary blues standards. Band members Ava Adams-14, Christian Taylor-13, Brook Jones-15, and Croix Stone-17, have a unique chemistry and musicality that’s remarkable for musicians so young. The soulful vocals of Ava accompanied by the powerful instrumentals of Christian, Brook, and Croix, make for a brilliant juxtaposition of hard rock and smooth blues. A Street Blues are currently rehearsing and writing original blues songs and booking events for the summer and fall of 2016.
(6:40-7:00pm) THE MYSTIC VINES
The Mystic Vines is an American alternative, funk fusion band from the Pacific Northwest. Formed in February 2015, The Mystic Vines’ line up consists of lead vocalist Halley Adams, guitarist Zachary Mitchell, drummer Jack Walker, and bassist Gabe Gadbow, all from Gig Harbor Washington. The band gained exposure following the release of their debut studio EP, “Good World”, and the single “Blindsided” (2015), available on iTunes. They are currently touring and writing songs for their upcoming full length studio album.
(8:00-8:45pm) THE SCHOOL OF ROCK
The School of Rock House Band is chosen through an audition process where members are held to a higher standard both musically and culturally. They act as a role model to the other students, lead by example and are expected to learn material quickly. These students play at a variety of venues, festivals, schools and charitable functions. More than anything these kids ROCK songs ranging from classic rock hits to more modern selections with great passion!
